Christmas Eve - Past and Present

We had a great night on Christmas Eve. I like to take a Christmas Eve family photo and I had really hoped for a fabulous one this year. There are so many things wrong with this one...but at least we got a shot!

This was one of my favorites from a few years ago...

Christmas Eve 2005

This year's Christmas Eve began with an early candlelight service at church. I already broke one of my annual resolutions.....to be punctual!
We attend a very large church; but usually go on Saturday nights so we don't deal with a full house. Christmas Eve was a different story; not getting there early enough landed us in the balcony...

Our kids still got to participate when they invited the little ones up on the stage for the reading of the Christmas story...

When it came time to light the candles, I was thankful we were in the balcony and able to see how spectacular the room looked. (this picture doesn't do it justice)

The funniest part of the evening was when our Pastor (who we LOVE) was talking before the candle lighting, and seemed to forget he was wearing a headset microphone and began using his candle as a microphone. He carried on like this for several minutes...I couldn't stop laughing!

It was a beautiful night and a wonderful celebration of the birth of our Lord.

We went home to eat pizza and watch a movie (The Nativity) and spend some time as a family.

I was missing Christmas Eves past in our old house....but am happy for the memories of when the girls were a little smaller.....

For now, we will just work on making new memories of Christmas Present!

I think it's a great family shot and the shot of all the candles in church...amazing. I wonder when your pastor realized he was speaking into a candle. Too funny!

This was a great post, Kristen. I liked your picture this year. Only you would know there is something wrong with it, and I speak from years of family photo taking experience. It looks like you had a beautiful Christmas. I particularly liked the candlelight picture from the balcony. Our church does not do a Christmas Eve service and my hubby and I always talk about how much we miss the candlelight service of Christmas past. Very nice job!

Oooh, beautiful pictures!!!! What a gorgeous family you have! I love all the candles at the church, so pretty.

My hubby is a pastor too, and he uses a headset microphone and sometimes will grab a hand held microphone so people can talk into it. Then he causes all this awful feedback, lol!

Thank you for posting about the giveaway!

Gorgeous photos! I can't believe how large your church is. That is amazing. I would have laughed a little too if I saw the pastor using a candle as a microphone. :)

What a beautiful church you attend!! We are trying to find a church home. It has been a year now of disagreement with my husband LOL! He likes the larger churches like yours... and i like the dinky old small churches where everyone know everyone! So we switch back and forth.

So did you move out of your old house? I saw yous aid you were missing your house. Glad you had a wonderful Christmas

I love this post, I laughed so hard at your pastor holding the candle to his mouth! I don't know how you stayed composed in the middle of service!

Your church is sooooo huge! It's..... wow..... HUGE! That pic of the candles is so breathtaking! If you say that doesn't do the real thing justice I wish I could have seen the real thing.

That last picture with the girls in front of the tree and their gifts... I got sort of misty eyed... do you know how many pictures I have of my three girls, about that same age, wearing pink and purple pajamas sitting together in front of the tree, all smiles and cute?? Now they are all so big. Wa! Treasure this time Kristin! It's fleeting.
